The Barberini Palace is more than an Art Gallery. It was erected in the 1625 as a family residence for Maffeo Barberini, the future pope Urban VIII. Competing with the most prestigious noble dynasties of Rome, the Pope commissioned architects Maderno, Bernini and Borromini to build this sumptuous palace. The painting decoration of the interior was executed by the best artists of the Baroque including Pietro da Cortona that adorned the main hall with one of Rome’s most impressive frescoes.
